Other Service Opportunities
The Campus Y offers opportunities for hands-on exploration of social justice issues through 18 student-run committees and an executive committee. Founded in 1859, Campus Y is the largest student organization at UNC Chapel Hill and wholly dedicated to the pursuit of social justice through service to the community, education on the campus, and non-violent social action. Campus Y committees focus on poverty, racial reconciliation, economic disparities in our society, and the particular problems of women in a male-dominated social system. Students are welcome to participate in ongoing projects or to bring new projects for assistance by the Y and its three permanent staff members. Campus Y is a department in the Division of Student Affairs but it receives no program funding from the university or student fees. A small endowment, contributions, and in-kind donations support the programs of the students.
