With about 25 full-time faculty members, and other visitors and part-time faculty, the Chapel Hill Department of Sociology offers students a wide range of intellectual choices.

Students may concentrate in any of the major areas of sociology. For a list of interest areas in the department, click here.

The department and its affiliated centers also offer ongoing venues for faculty and students in a number of interest areas, including departmental working groups on Cultural & Political Sociology, Genetics and Society, and Race & Ethnicity; the Carolina Population Center Seminar Series; and more than a dozen interdisciplinary working groups sponsored by the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science.

Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact faculty in their primary areas of interest.
