William Corsaro , one of Glen Elder’s earliest doctoral students in our Department of Sociology at UNC, received a Distinguished Career Award (2013) from the ASA Section on Children and Youth in NYC. Glen told us that “More than anyone I know, Bill led the way in establishing the sociological study of children and childhood. At the time of his doctorate, psychology was the disciplinary field for studying children and their development. Bill authored a popular text on the sociology of childhood which is now in its 4th edition.”
