Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Carolina Population Center (CPC) Fellow Barbara Entwisle has been named incoming Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee (CSAC) for the US Census Bureau. The CSAC provides advice on the design, operation, and implementation of Census Bureau programs and advises the Census Bureau director on the uses of scientific developments as they pertain to Census Bureau programs and activities.

Previously, Dr. Entwisle has been elected President of the Population Association of America, President of the Sociological Research Association, and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; has served as Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC-Chapel Hill and as Director and Training Director at the CPC; and has received the NIH MENTOR award, UNC’s Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award and Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction, and six teaching and mentoring awards from UNC Sociology graduate students.
